THE PLAY OF THE WEEK

Stop Doing One-Off Training Sessions

I spent years delivering keynotes and training sessions for big companies.

And I am going to tell you something that cost me a lot to admit.

Most of it did not work.

Not because the content was bad. But because without follow up and accountability nothing changed. People left fired up and were back to their old habits by Thursday.

I once asked a room full of leaders what they learned from their favorite trainer that actually changed their results.

Silence. Not one answer.

That broke my heart. And it changed everything about how I work.

Information without application is just entertainment. A one-off training session without accountability is an expensive way to feel good for two weeks and change nothing.

Real change requires structure. Support. And someone holding you accountable to actually do the thing.

That is the difference between a training event and a coaching relationship.

GET ON THE ICE

  • Think about the last training or program your team attended — what actually changed as a result?
  • Identify one thing you learned in the last 90 days that you have not yet applied — and commit to applying it this week
  • Before your next team training ask — what is our follow up and accountability plan?

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“To change behavior and get the results you want, you need structure, support, and accountability. When all three of those are in place, you have a good follow-up plan.”
